The Syllable Reading Folder (SRF) allows learners to demonstrate their knowledge of the sound – letter correspondence with kinesthetic (tactile) movement. The six syllable types (open syllable, closed syllable, vowel pair syllable, vowel-r syllable, vowel consonant e syllable and final stable syllable) may be taught and expressed with the tiles used to concretely show the learner’s understanding of each type. Additionally, the learner can learn about affixes (prefix and suffix) on the SRF and how they are added to the beginning or end of a base word. The learner will be able to manipulate the tiles to create thousands of word combinations. The folder allows for easy access to the tiles to build from a simple cvc (consonant vowel consonant) word such as c-a-t to more complex words like un-i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-ing or even un-i-n-t-er-e-st-ing for more advance users. One of the greatest features of the SRF is the tiles do not move and can be held up in class or to a camera for confirmation of the correct use and spelling of a word. At the end of the lesson, simply close the SRF and the tiles are there for quick use the next time. The pocket on the folder will hold any additional tiles that haven’t been taught yet or are not needed on the board. The SRF can increase a learner’s ability to read, spell and write with accuracy and automaticity. The Level 1 kit is for use with learners working on a kindergarten through 4th grade level. There is even an advance supplemental kit, Level 2 (inserts only) for learners ready for more developed complex reading and spelling structures.
